It was before 9 pm on a Monday and even though we were assured a dry night, it hadn't given up on pouring down rain! Dan and me were resting talking over the recent footy rankings, at the ready for the sixth telephone call of the day to arrive. Before long we had a phone call from a lovely woman on a business trip who had pulled into the Shell filling garage in Wantage and filled the wrong fuel in her diesel precious Audi A4 hire car in error. The poor lady was quite troubled it seemed, stating "I still cannot believe I've wrecked the car! I'm just so familiar with filling up my petrol vehicle I completely didn't remember I was using a diesel!" I asked her to settle back and not to fret, plus that things like this sadly can happen. She managed to maneuver the car into a safe space and, seeing as it was no more than a few miles off from our van, we were able to find the customer swiftly. The wrong fuel was removed so she could return to the Premier Inn she was living in. Despite the fact we got extremely soaked, it was all worth it to see her drive home satisfied and a lot less anxious. Yet another fuel drain in Oxfordshire done well in my mind!

If you've mistakenly put the incorrect fuel in your car and now require the wrong fuel removed you are likely searching the web on the lookout for a quick, trustworthy, proficient and affordable fuel drain company in Wantage or Oxfordshire. We are the people for you!

The 3 things you MUST know about petrol in diesel!

Out of Fuel Services

Run out of fuel in Wantage (out of gas - as an American might say)? We perform a full Oxfordshire Run Out of Fuel Service. We are able to come to fill up your car if you are having difficulty on a motorway, on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, or just at home. Our engineers can come to you with 10-20 litres of the right fuel (acquired at cost) and fill up your car or truck. They are also able to take care of any of the most common issues which may go with running out of fuel - for example airlocks, vehicle unable to start, or maybe flat batteries caused by over-cranking.

Water Contamination or AdBlue Contamination

Water contaminated fuel, regardless of whether it's petrol or diesel, is generally a serious issue to deal with in a car - specifically in more modern common-rail engines.

Water or AdBlue in petrol or diesel can cause idling difficulties, lumpy running, abnormal smoke and, if it's not addressed properly, oftentimes broken injectors. Having water in petrol is less difficult to clean out as compared with water in diesel - this is mostly because diesel is an oil. Even so we are able to take care of both circumstances quite easily.

Take note though that as long as the vehicle was run with the water contamination it will probably require a new fuel filter fitted seeing as the old one will be completely wet and useless.

Wrong Fuel in Car in OX12 Postcode - Wantage Misfueling

Just had a quality night of uninterrupted sleep! It was 7:00 am on a sunny Saturday and we were en route to help an older sweetheart who had put petrol in her diesel maroon Mitsubishi Outlander in Wantage. I'd been informed she had left the filling station forecourt and broken down on a rural lane on route to see her grandchildren. I plugged her location straight into the TomTom and was with her within 60 minutes. I turned up at the stricken lady and drained the wrong fuel from the car. As I was doing the work she said to me, "I am becoming fairly absent-minded in my old age and didn't remember about the vehicle working with diesel as I had just purchased it several days ago because my previous one, which I'd owned for about 25 years, inevitably gave up the ghost". I got the job completed and she offered me a Murray mint and said thanks a lot. Such a pleasant Oxfordshire woman!

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
